Windmills For Home Electricity

I first started using windmills for electricity with a small windmill on a garden post. I used it to charge a marine battery for my electric fence.

It was not elaborate or fancy but it did its job well. I made several different styles for small needs, from ground thumpers to keep away pesky moles to my larger turbines that supplement home electrical use.

These are all simple in design and you can practically find all the motors for free. Small electric motors are perfect for residential windmills. My fence charging windmill was once a Black&Decker drill that I picked up at a yardsale for $3.

Usually the mechanics of a device will fail but the motor within is the real treasure.
